Dear HBC family,
Hello from the front office (aka my laptop, for the time being)! If you are home, feeling a little helpless, and wondering what you could be doing to help in the midst of a pandemic, here are seven ways to serve HBC during COVID-19.
- Join our COVID-19 Care Team.
We currently have a group of people who are checking in on HBC members and meeting needs as they arise. They are, in my opinion, the current unsung heroes in our church. The bulk of the work of this group involves making phone calls. If you would like to be added to this team, call or email me and I will add you to the list. I send out weekly updates and instructions.
- Download Church Center and Update your Contact Information.
This is a great time to make sure we have all of your information updated in our people database and directory. If you have access to the internet and have not yet downloaded the “Church Center” App, please do so, or simply go to myhbc.churchcenter.com and follow the instructions to log in. Once you log in, you will be able to check your profile and contact information (even you younger folks may have incorrect information; check just in case!) Please email or call me if there is missing or incorrect information.
- Update me, or a fellow church member, with your requests/needs.
We can only help you if we know the need! I know there are many of you who do not currently have access to email, the prayer sheet, or Jeremy’s sermons on the website. Even needs as simple as these are important to us. There are some ways we might be able to get this information to you. Just call or email me and we will help you.
- Engage with us!
There are many opportunities to continue to engage with your church family throughout this time. Read and pray over the prayer sheet each Wednesday. Read the Pastors’ weekly updates. Watch the videos we post on the website. Follow us on social media. We want to continue to be in communication with you all.
- Ask for Instructions.
Many of you are having to navigate new waters as you try to send/receive emails, access the church directory, find the website, activate a Zoom account, and initiate online giving (among other things). The staff here, and your fellow church members, may be able to help you. I have also received multiple calls asking if it is alright to mail in checks. The answer is yes! We are still picking up the mail each day, and it is safe for you to mail in your tithe if you wish to do so.
- Check in on your friends via phone and/or notes.
The Lord may put someone on your heart during this time. Send him/her a note, or give him/her a call! Sometimes a simple conversation is an enormous encouragement to a weary soul. Be faithful with the small tasks that are placed in front of you, for they are making an eternal difference.
- Pray.
As Pastor Jeremy often reminds us, prayer is “mission critical”. Do not forget that you engage in a mighty battle when you bow your head in prayer. Pray each day, and trust that our Father is faithful to work all things for our good and His glory (1 Thessalonians 5:24).
May the joy of the Lord be your strength today (Nehemiah 8:10). I miss you all.
